Water Pump: Service and Repair

Coolant Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306)

‹› Spring Type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024A)

Removing

CAUTION!
Hot steam may escape when opening the expansion tank cap. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to eyes
and scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open very carefully.

Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures.

Remove the toothed belt, refer to one of the following:

=> [ Toothed Belt, with Divided Toothed Belt Guard ] See: Engine/Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Toothed Belt, With Divided Toothed Belt Guard.

=> [ Toothed Belt, without Divided Toothed Belt Guard ] See: Engine/Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Toothed Belt, Without Divided Toothed Belt Guard.

Remove the coolant pump bolts - 1 - and remove the coolant pump - 2 -.

Remove the O-ring - 3 -.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Install a new O-ring.

-

Clean or smooth the sealing surface for the O-ring.

-

Lubricate the new O-ring - 3 - with coolant.
