Compression Check: Testing and Inspection

Compression Test

  Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Spark Plug Removal Tool (3122 B)

‹› Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)

‹› Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

‹› Compression Tester (V.A.G 1763)

Test Sequence:

  ‹› Observe the safety precautions, refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] See: Powertrain Management/Ignition System/Service Precautions/Safety

Precautions.

‹› Engine oil temperature a minimum of 30 °C (86 °F).

‹› Battery voltage at least 12.7 volts.

Remove the engine cover. Refer to => [ Engine Cover ] See: Cylinder Head Assembly/Service and Repair/Engine Cover.

Disconnect the electrical connectors - arrows - from the ignition coils.

Remove the ignition coils using ignition coil puller (T40039).
