Variable Valve Timing Actuator: Service and Repair
Camshaft Adjuster Valves

Camshaft Adjuster Valves

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Socket Wrench (T10072)

‹› TORX Bit Set (V.A.G 1766)

‹› Torque Wrench (5-60 Nm) (V.A.G 1783)

‹› Ratchet Insert 1/4" (VAS 6234)

Removing

-

Remove the intake manifold. Refer to => [ Intake Manifold ] See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Intake Manifold/Service and Repair/Intake
Manifold.

Disconnect the 2 pin connector from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (G62)- arrow -. 

-

Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Service and Repair/Procedures/Draining
and Filling.

Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to => [ Coolant Thermostat Housing Overview ] See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling
System/Thermostat/Service and Repair/Coolant Thermostat Housing Overview.

Remove the cylinder head cover. Refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Cylinder Head Assembly/Valve
Cover/Service and Repair/Cylinder Head Cover.

‹› Mark the connector assignment to the component before disconnecting the connectors.

Disconnect the connectors from the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor (G40) - 1 - and CMP sensor 2 (G163) - 2 -.
