Selector Mechanism, Checking

Starter must not be able to be operated in selector lever positions " R", "D" and "S".

For speeds exceeding 5 km/h and shifting into selector lever position " N", the shift lock solenoid must not engage to lock the selector lever. Selector
lever can be shifted into driving gear.

For speeds below 5 km/h (almost a stand still) and shifting into selector lever position "N", the shift lock solenoid must only engage after
approximately 1 second. Selector lever can only be shifted out of the " N" position with the brake pedal pressed.

Selector lever in the "P" position with the ignition switched ON

‹› Brake pedal not pressed:

Selector lever is locked and cannot be moved out of the "P" position with the button pressed Selector lever is blocked by selector lever lock solenoid. 

‹› Brake pedal pressed:

Selector lever lock solenoid releases selector lever. Selecting a driving mode is possible. Shift selector lever slowly through from " P" to "S" position;
while doing this, check whether display of selector lever position in instrument panel insert matches actual selector lever position.

Selector lever in the "N" position with the ignition switched ON

‹› Brake pedal not pressed:

Selector lever is locked and cannot be shifted out of the " N" position with button pressed. Selector lever is blocked by selector lever lock solenoid.

‹› Brake pedal pressed:

Selector lever lock solenoid releases selector lever. Selecting a driving mode is possible.

Selector lever in Tiptronic position

‹› Move selector lever into Tiptronic gate:

Brightening of "D" symbol must go out in the selector mechanism cover and "+" and "-" symbols must light up.

The selector lever display in instrument panel insert must change from "P R N D S" to "6 5 4 3 2 1" when selector lever is shifted to Tiptronic gate.

Ignition and light switched ON

The appropriate symbol is being lit in shift mechanism cover.

Selector lever position display

Simultaneous lighting of all segments of transmission range selector lever display indicates transmission is in emergency running mode.

To check selector lever cable for ease of movement, selector lever cable must be removed from transmission and the removed end must be set aside so
that it does not make contact anywhere.

Then selector lever is moved and finally cable is reinstalled at transmission. 

Then, selector lever cable must be adjusted, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] See: Adjustments.
