Installation

Oil the contact surfaces of both camshafts
NOTE:

Observe engine direction of rotation marking on double chain!

When installing camshafts, the recess for the camshaft sprockets -arrows- must be at the top.

When installing bearing caps, ensure that the identification mark is readable from the exhaust side of cylinder head and that the arrow points
toward the vibration damper
Camshaft For Cylinders 1, 3 And 5

Tighten bearing caps 3 and 5 alternately and diagonally to: 20 Nm (15 ft lb)

Install bearing caps 1 and 7 and tighten to: 20 Nm (15 ft lb)
Camshaft For Cylinders 2, 4 And 6

Tighten bearing caps 2 and 6 alternately and diagonally to: 20 Nm (15 ft lb)

Install bearing cap 4 and tighten to: 20 Nm (15 ft lb)

Clean sealing surfaces of camshaft sprocket cover and cylinder head
-
Remove old sealant from 3 mm holes in cylinder head gasket -arrows-
NOTE: With the cylinder head installed, the holes in the cylinder head gasket are only half visible.

Install camshaft sprockets (double chain) item -4- above

Fill 3 mm holes in head gasket with AMV 188 00102 sealant

Coat camshaft cover sealing surfaces with AMV 188 001 02

Oil O-ring and insert in cover for camshafts, refer to (item 15) in Replacement. See: Cylinder Head Assembly/Service and Repair

Install cover for camshafts, insert old mounting bolts and lightly tighten
First tighten M8 mounting bolts to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
Tighten M6 mounting bolts to: 10 Nm (7 ft lb)

Install chain tensioner for double chain and tighten to: 30 Nm (22 ft lb)
NOTE: If chain tensioner has been pulled apart, bleed before installing refer to Fig. 2 found under Disassembly/Assembly To Major Components.
