Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Function 04: Basic Setting, Performing

NOTES:

-

Only perform  Function 04 "Basic setting" if the Throttle Valve Control Module, Engine Control Module or engine was replaced.

-

Function 04 "Basic setting" (with ignition switched ON) matches the Engine Control Module to the Throttle Valve Control Module.

-

If the Basic setting is interrupted by the Control Module, it is possible that the Throttle body is not positioned on the mechanical stop due to dirt or
contamination build-up such as carbon or an incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable. If this is the case, the malfunction "Basic setting not
performed" will be stored in DTC memory. The next time the ignition is switched ON, Basic setting will automatically be performed again.

Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) Scan Tool

With ignition switched ON but engine not running, press 0 and 1 buttons to select Address Word 01: "engine electronics"

Press 0 and 4 buttons to select Function 04 "Basic setting"

Press Q button to enter selection

Display will appear as shown

Initiate Basic setting

Input display group number XX

Press 0, 9 and 8 buttons to select "Display group number 98"

Press Q button to enter selection

Display will appear as shown (1 to 4 = Display zones)

NOTE:  After confirming Display group number 98 the Throttle Valve Actuator will move to the mm., max. and then start positions. The Control
Module stores the appropriate throttle valve angle in permanent memory The throttle valve will then remain in the start position.
