Wiring, checking

Connect VAG 1598/18 Test Box to ECM wiring harness.

-

Switch Fluke 83 multimeter to resistance range.

-

Check wiring for short to Ground by connecting multimeter between Test Box sockets 01 + 40 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.
-

specification: infinity Ohms

-

Switch multimeter to 20 Volt DC range.

-

Switch ignition on.

-

Check wiring for short to positive, record voltage value if necessary.

-

Switch ignition on.

-

Disconnect 8-pin Throttle Valve Control Module connector.

Continuation (If voltage present)

If approx. 5 Volts measured:

-

Connect multimeter between Test Box sockets 40 + 41 using jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit and measure resistance.
-

specification: infinity Ohms

If Voltage was approx. equal to battery voltage:

-

Check wire for short to battery positive at 8-pin harness connector terminal 5 using wiring diagram.

Continuation (if no voltage present)

-

Check wiring for open circuit between Test Box and 8-pin connector using wiring diagram.
terminal 5 + socket 40
-

wire resistance: 1.5 Ohms maximum

If wiring OK:

-

Replace Throttle Valve Control Module.
