Power Steering Pump: Testing and Inspection
Delivery Pressure Of Power Steering Pump, Checking
Special Tools and Equipment

VAG1402 power steering tester
Note: VAG140216 adapter hose is required for checking delivery pressure.
Test requirements:
^
V-belt-belt tensioning OK
^
Sealing of system
^
Hoses/lines are not kinked or constricted
^
Remove noise insulation pan.
^
Unbolt pressure line at power steering gear.
^
Connect VAG1402 pressure gauge as shown in illustration. Stopcock at pressure gauge open.
^
Fill up hydraulic oil.
^
Start engine and top up oil level in reservoir if necessary. Check hose connections for leaks.
^
With engine at idle speed, close stopcock (not more than 5 seconds) and read pressure.
^
Specification: 95 to 110 bar positive pressure
Notes:
^
Replace pump if the specified value is missed by more than ± 5 bar.
^
In case of leaks at steering pinion, check lines/line connections for leaks, if necessary tighten and wipe dry.
^
In case of leaks at the steering pinion or at pinion shaft seal in steering housing, the steering gear must be replaced. Slide boot to side for
checking pinion shaft seal.
