NOTE:  During the idle test, the EVAP valve and the A/C system are turned off and adaptation is performed for oxygen sensor control.

-

Perform a longer road test, until the driveability problems are eliminated.

Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests.

The following operating conditions must be obtained during road test:

-

Coolant temperature must rise to above 80°C.

-

Once this temperature is reached, the following conditions
Idle
Partial throttle
Wide Open Throttle (WOT)

Deceleration mode must be reached several times each.
-

Engine speed must be increased to above 3500 RPM during Wide Open Throttle (WOT).

ECM, Adapting to Throttle Valve Control Module

The adaptation teaches the Engine Control Module (ECM) various positions of the throttle valve when the ignition is on and the engine is stopped. These
positions are stored in the control module Throttle valve position feedback takes place through the two throttle valve drive angle sensors.

The adaptation must be performed if:

-

the supply voltage has been interrupted

-

the throttle valve control unit has been removed and reinstalled

-

the throttle valve control module has been replaced

-

another engine has been installed, and another throttle valve control module along with it

Special tools and equipment

-

VAG1551 scan tool (or VAG1552 mobile scan tool) with VAG1551/3B cable

Test requirement

-

There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory.

-

Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.

-

All electrical consumers like, for example, lights and rear window heating must be switched off.

-

Throttle valve must be in Closed Throttle Position (CTP)

Procedure

-

Connect VAG1551 scan tool (VAG1552). Then switch ignition on and select the Engine Control Module (ECM) using address word 01.

Press buttons -0- and -4- to select "Basic Setting" function 04. Press -Q- button to confirm input.

Indicated on display:

Enter display group number XXX

Press 0, 6 and 0 for the function "display group number 60", and then press Q to exit from input mode.

Indicated on display: (1 to 4 = display fields)

After pressing Q-button, throttle valve actuator will be switched on without current.

In this condition, the throttle valve will be drawn into an emergency position by a mechanical spring, which is located in the throttle valve control unit.
The values supplied by the two angle sensors in this emergency position are stored by the Engine Control Module (ECM).
