Water Pump: Service and Repair
Coolant Pump
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)
‹› Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A)
Removing
CAUTION!
Hot steam may escape when opening the expansion tank cap. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent damage to your
eyes and from scalding. Cover the cap with a cloth and open the cap very carefully.

Drain the cooling system. Refer to --> [ Draining and Filling ] See: Service and Repair/Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

Remove the toothed belt, refer to one of the following:

without Divided Toothed Belt Guard.
‹› --> [ Toothed Belt, with Divided Toothed Belt Guard ] See: Engine/Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Toothed Belt, with
Divided Toothed Belt Guard.

Remove the coolant pump bolts - 1 - and remove the coolant pump - 2 -.

Remove the O-ring - 3 -.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse order. When doing this note the following:

Replace the O-ring.

Clean or smooth the sealing surface for the O-ring.

Lubricate the new O-ring - 3 - with coolant.
