Transmission Position Switch/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module Voltage Supply, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Multimeter.

‹› Wiring diagram.

Test requirements

‹› Fuse (SC6) OK.

‹› Fuse (SC18) OK.

‹› Battery voltage at least 12.5 volts.

‹› All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster, switched off.

‹› Selector lever in "P".

‹› A/C switched off.

‹› Ground (GND) connections between engine/transmission/chassis OK.

‹› Ignition switched off.

Test procedure

-

Perform a preliminary check to verify the customers complaint. Refer to --> [ Preliminary Check ] See: Powertrain Management/Computers and
Control Systems/Testing and Inspection/Scan Tool Testing and Procedures/Preliminary Check.

Start diagnosis

-

Disconnect the Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module (J587) electrical harness connector.

Checking voltage

-

Using a Multimeter, check the Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module (J587) electrical harness connector terminal 10 to Ground (GND)
for voltage.

-

Switch the ignition off.

Specified value: battery voltage.

If the specified value was not obtained:

-

Check the Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module (J587) electrical harness connector terminal 10 to the Battery (A) the for an open circuit
or short to Ground (GND).

-

Check the wiring connection for damage, corrosion, lose or broken terminals.

-

If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection.

If the specified value was obtained:

-

Using a Multimeter, check the Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module (J587) electrical harness connector terminal 9 to Ground (GND) for
voltage.

Specified value: battery voltage.

If the specified value was not obtained:
