Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Upper Timing Chain Cover
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Torque wrench 5-60 Nm (VAG 1783)
‹› Open end spanner insert AF 10 (VAG 1783/1)
Removing
-
Remove the camshaft adjustment valve 1. Refer to --> [ Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 ] See: Variable Valve Timing/Variable Valve Timing
Actuator/Service and Repair/Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1.

Remove the bolts - 5 through 1 - and remove the upper timing chain cover.
Installing
‹› Tightening sequence and Specification, refer to --> [ Upper Timing Chain Cover Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ] See: Timing Chain
Covers Assembly Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
‹› Coat the seal and the O-ring with engine oil.
‹› Install the upper timing chain cover using the (VAG 1783) and the (VAG 1783/1), tightening sequence and specification. Refer to --> [ Upper
