‹› If the battery is not secured properly, the plates within the battery can be damaged.

‹› Damage to battery casing caused by bracket (possible electrolyte leakage, high subsequent costs).

‹› Reduced collision safety.

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Tighten all fasteners to specified values. Refer to --> [ Battery Tightening Specifications ] See: Specifications.

After installing, ensure the battery is seated properly.

Connect the battery. Refer to --> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] See: Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

CAUTION!
‹› Always ensure the vehicle electrical system is protected by disconnecting the battery before working on the electrical system.

‹› Do not loosen or remove the grounding wires from the body. Only disconnect the battery negative terminal (-).

‹› The battery positive terminal (B+) must only be disconnected if the battery is removed from the vehicle.

‹› Observe warning notes and safety precautions. Refer to --> [ Warnings and Safety Precautions ] See: Service Precautions.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Disconnecting

CAUTION!
‹› Turn off the ignition and all electrical consumers.

‹› Remove ignition key.

Procedure

Open locking mechanism - arrow - and remove battery box cover.
