Checking ignition timing > < Installing distributor

Servicing TIC-H ignition system
Checking and adjusting ignition timing point
  • ● Minimum engine oil temperature 60 °C.

  • ● Vacuum hoses remain attached.
  • ● Choke valve fully open.
  • ● Ignition switched off.
  • ‒ → Connect up ignition tester V.A.G 1367 with clip-on trigger V.A.G 1367/8 or ignition tester V.A.G 1767.

  • ‒ → Pull plugs off DIS switch unit by pressing against surface on plug/switch unit -arrows- and connect together.

All vehicles

  • ‒ Start engine and let it idle.
  • ‒ Check and if necessary adjust ignition timing point.
    Test specifications and settings:
    Adjust data, spark plugs =>page 28-44

Checking with TDC sender

The ignition timing point is indicated directly on the tester.

Checking with stroboscopic lamp

  • ‒ Aim lamp at ignition firing point notch.
  • ‒ If necessary, adjust ignition timing point by turning distributor.
