If a new steering rack has been used then the steering play is to be adjusted as described in the following.
   
–  Drill a 5.1 mm Ø hole in the centre of the adjustment screw (centre on reverse side).
–  Thoroughly clean adjustment screw.
–  Centre steering rack (measure left and right-hand steering rack projection).
–  Fit thrust piece and spring in housing, if not already fitted.
–  Screw adjustment screw and lock nut into the housing until the markings align.

–  Attach dial gauge and set to “0” with approx. 1 mm preload. (Ensure that the dial gauge feeler does not stick and that its face is not damaged/deformed).

–  Screw right-hand track rod onto steering rack and tighten hand tight.
–  Turn steering rack radially from stop to stop thereby noting dial gauge indicator deflection.
Indicator deflection max. 0.10 mm.
If the indicator deflection is more than 0.10 mm, screw adjustment screw very slightly into housing.
If indicator deflection is less than 0.10 mm, screw adjustment screw very slightly out of housing.
–  Tighten locking nut.
–  Check indicator deflection again and if necessary repeat adjustment.
–  Remove dial gauge.

Seal hole in adjustment screw with plug from repair kit.
–  First insert clip -2- with seal -1- into hole.
–  Apply a drop of sealant -AMV 188 001 02- into clip bore -arrow- and press plug -3- into clip.
–  Bolt on track rods → Anchor.
