Deactivating front passenger airbag
Deactivating front passenger airbag
If a rear-facing child seat on the front passenger seat is used, the airbag unit can be deactivated. As soon as the child seat is no longer required, the front passenger airbag should be enabled again.
Repair set -1H0 998 521 B- is required for modification.
  Note
Obtain radio unit code before disconnecting battery.
  WARNING
Disconnect battery earth strap before working on electrical system.
  WARNING
Before touching the airbag systems, the mechanic must electrostatically discharge him/herself. This can be done by touching a suitable metal part, for example, a water pipe, a heater pipe or a metal frame.
To do this, it is necessary to remove the front passenger airbag. → General body repairs; Rep. Gr.69

After deactivating or activating the passenger side airbag, complete the registration card (see illustrated catalogue in Technical Service Handbook) and send it to the relevant distribution centre or importer for registration. Enter confirmation of the conversion in the service documents.
In Germany, the deactivation or reactivation of the system must be checked by an authorised test centre, for example the TÜV, and confirmed with an entry in the vehicle documents.
