Safety measures for working on air conditioned vehicles and handling refrigerant - R12

The assemblies and the pipe work of the air conditioner system are filled with R12 (difluorodichloromethane CF2Cl2) as a refrigerant, up to and including model year 1992.

Before performing service requiring the opening of the refrigerant circuit, the system must be converted to refrigerant R134a:

At present the R12 refrigerant pressure vessels are labelled with the following trade names:

  • ‒ Frigen R12
  • ‒ Freon R12

These trade names may vary from country to country.

Before working on electrical components disconnect battery earth strap.

Notes:

  • ◆ Types of refrigerant and refrigerant oil used are indicated on bonnet lock carrier information plate.
  • ◆ Before disconnecting battery obtain "Radio code" if radio with anti-theft code is fitted.
