  Note
t  After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary, so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  To draw off brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir use a bleeder bottle which is used only for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous and must on no account be sucked out by mouth using a hose!
t  Wheel bolt tightening torque: 110 Nm
1 - Cross-head screw
2 - Brake pads
q   With brake pad wear indicator.
q   Always renew both sides
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Pad thickness: Internally ventilated brake disc, 14 mm (new).
q   Check thickness → Booklet35.
q   Wear limit: 7 mm (including backplate).
3 - Brake disc
q   Always renew both sides
q   Remove brake caliper prior to removing.
GT equipment (basic running gear)
q   Internally ventilated brake disc: Ø 256.00 mm.
q   Brake disc thickness: 20 mm.
q   Wear limit: 18 mm.
GTI, GTI 16V equipment and VR6 equipment up to 12.94 (Plus running gear)
q   Internally ventilated brake disc: Ø 280.00 mm.
q   Brake disc thickness: 22 mm.
q   Wear limit: 20 mm.
4 - Cross-head screw
5 - Wheel hub
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
6 - Speed sensor rotor
q   Only on vehicles with ABS.
7 - Hexagon bolt, 10 Nm
8 - Cover plate
9 - Wheel bearing housing
10 - Brake carrier with guide pin and protective cap
q   Supplied as replacement part, assembled with sufficient grease on guide pins.
q   Use repair set if protective caps are damaged
q   Use supplied grease sachet to lubricate guide pins.
11 - Heat shield
q   Insert into piston.
12 - Brake caliper housing
q   Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads.
13 - Spring retainer
14 - Self-locking bolt, 35 Nm
q   Renew
15 - Self-locking combi-bolt, 125 Nm
16 - Protective cap
17 - Guide pin
18 - Connector
q   Brake pad wear indicator
19 - Spring retainer
20 - Spring retainer
21 - Connector
q   For ABS speed sensor.
22 - Hexagon socket head bolt, 10 Nm
23 - Speed sensor
q   Only on vehicles with ABS.
q   Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of hole and coat with lubricating paste -G 000 650-.
