Illustration shows 5-hole running gear. However, repairs on and the structure of the 4-hole running gear are identical.
  Note
t  Careful sealing, absolute cleanliness and precise adjustment are prerequisites for long wheel bearing service life. Therefore note the following points:
t  Install oil seal and grease cap as shown.
t  Only install clean bearings.
t  Adjust wheel bearing play carefully.
1 - Stub axle
q   Straightening operations are not permitted.
2 - Cover plate
3 - Dished spring
q   Larger contact surface (concave side) faces towards cover plate.
4 - 60 Nm
5 - Cover ring
q   Renew

6 - Speed sensor rotor
q   Only on vehicles with ABS.
7 - Sealing ring
q   Fill between sealing lips with grease -G 052 128 A1-.

q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.

9 - Outer wheel bearing
q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.

10 - Pressure plate

q   Only for vehicles with ABS.

–  Loosen grease cap from seat by tapping lightly on the claw.

  Note
t  Always renew damaged (dented) grease caps.
t  Damaged (dented) grease caps allow ingress of moisture. That is why it is essential to use the tool shown in the illustration.

Adjusting wheel bearing play
  Note
Using a screwdriver it must be possible to move the thrust plate by finger pressure (without leverage).
–  Secure with locking ring and new split pin.
