Self-diagnosis of immobilizer
Adapting ignition keys

Notes:

  • ◆ If new or additional ignition keys are required they must be adapted to the immobilizer control unit.
  • ◆ Note procedure when changing the locking set and the immobilizer control unit.
  • ◆ The adaption procedure must always be carried out for all the ignition keys.
  • ◆ The number of keys already adapted will be displayed when the adaption function is selected.
  • ◆ If only one key is adapted, the vehicle can be started immediately with this key. If more than one key has been adapted, the vehicle can only be started immediately with the last key adapted.
Warning!
The VAS 5051 dealership number (workshop code) will be stored in immobilizer control unit when adapting ignition keys.

Prerequisites

  • ● All ignition keys available. If old ignition key is not available see "Lost key procedure",
  • ● PIN is available, if not see "Establishing PIN", => page 01-42

Note:

If the display is not as per the display in the work sequence:

=> Operating instructions for Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051.

  • ‒ Insert correct profile ignition key in the ignition lock.
  • ‒ Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Measuring and Information System VAS 5051, select operating mode "Vehicle self-diagnosis", switch on ignition and select "25 - Immobilizer".

→ Indicated on display:

  • ‒ Obtain PIN according to chassis number -2- and identification number -3- stored in the immobilizer control unit.
  • ‒ Press arrow button -1- on display.

If "Function not known or cannot be carried out at the moment" is displayed, repeat entry.

Notes:

  • ◆ 3 attempts to enter the correct PIN are possible immediately, the next 3 attempts are only permitted after a minimum of 10 minutes if the ignition remains switched on during this time and the self-diagnosis is exited via the function 06 "End output".
  • ◆ The waiting period between each 3 attempts doubles each time up to a maximum of 255 minutes.

  • ‒ Press "10 - Adaption" on display -arrow-.

  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 1 on the display number block -arrow-.
  • ‒ Confirm entry with Q key on display number block.

  • ‒ Drag the position indicator -arrow- in the display until the number of keys appears above the scroll bar -1-.

Note:

For same number of keys the value must be modified and reset.

  • ‒ → Press "Save" button -2- on display.

The key in ignition/starter lock is now adapted.

  • ‒ Switch off ignition.
  • ‒ Insert the next key in the ignition lock and switch on ignition for at least 1 second.
  • ‒ Repeat this procedure until all keys are adapted.

Notes:

  • ◆ The matching of the ignition keys will be automatically terminated after 60 seconds; the time will not be registered with the ignition switched off.
  • ◆ All ignition keys matched before the termination remain valid.
  • ◆ Matching all ignition keys again after a termination is only possible after 2 minutes with ignition switched off and by calling-up the function "Matching ignition keys" again.
  • ◆ The matching procedure must always be carried out for all the ignition keys, this means also those ignition keys which were matched before the termination must be matched again.

The adaption of ignition keys is automatically terminated when:

  • ◆ number of keys to be adapted is reached.
  • ◆ an already adapted key is used to switch on the ignition again and the ignition remains switched on for longer than 1 second (fault is stored)
  • ◆ permitted adaption period of 60 seconds is exceeded (fault is stored) after switching ignition on using the 2nd key.
  • ‒ Select function "Interrogate fault memory". If there is no fault stored, the adaption of keys has been successfully completed.
  • ‒ End output => page 01-17 .
