Removing Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- t  Grease -G 000 450 02-

Selector mechanisms through 12.00 –  Only if the gear selector cable, the gate selector cable or the cable end piece is to be renewed may the cable end-piece -A- or -B- be pried off with 13 mm open jaw spanner -1- If the above-named parts are not to be renewed

–  Pull locking mechanisms on gate selector cable and gear selector cable forward to stop -direction of arrow 1- and then turn to left to lock -direction of arrow 2-.

Selector mechanisms from 01.01 –  Remove securing clip -4- for gear selector cable from gearbox selector lever -1-. –  Remove securing clip -3- for gate selector cable from relay lever -2-. –  Pull gate selector cable and gear selector cables off pins -arrows-. Continued for all selector mechanisms

–  Remove cable support bracket from gearbox -arrows-, if necessary unclip hoses on cable support bracket first.

–  Carefully lever cover off centre console -arrows-. –  Pull cover to rear off centre console. –  Remove noise insulation.

–  Then destroy clamp -arrow- and pull off gear knob with cover.

–  Now remove front securing nuts for selector housing -arrows-.

–  Then remove rear securing nuts -arrows- for selector housing.

–  Remove retainer -1- above exhaust system -arrows-. –  Separate exhaust system at double clamp -2- and remove with catalytic converter (2nd mechanic) → Rep. gr.26. –  Now remove middle and front heat shield. –  Remove propshaft → Chapter. –  Swing selector housing down and remove with selector cables.
