On vehicles with four-wheel drive, fuel has to be pumped with a suction-jet pump from the area of fuel gauge sender 2 -G169-, → Item, to the fuel pump due to the shape of the fuel tank. The suction jet pumps work according to one of the rules of physics. It is driven via an additional connection on the fuel pump by the fuel supply.
  Note
An inspection is only necessary if the engine stops as a result of insufficient fuel, despite the fuel gauge showing there is still fuel in the tank (more than reserve).
Test prerequisite
l  Both fuel gauge senders must be checked using the fault finding program and found to be OK: → Current flow diagrams, Guided fault finding with VAS 5051
l  Fuel tank must be empty.
