t  Spark plug socket and extension -3122 B-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Compression tester -V.A.G 1763-
t  Puller -T10094-

   
t  Assembly tool -T10118-
Prerequisite
l  Engine oil temperature must be at least 30 °C.
Procedure
–  Remove engine cover.
–  Pull 4-pin connectors off ignition coils with final output stages → Chapter.
–  Unscrew spark plugs with spark plug spanner -3122 B-.

–  Remove fuse 28 for fuel pump.
–  Check compression using compression tester -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note
How to use the test unit is described in the respective operating instructions.
–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressures
New: 10…15 bar.
Wear limit: 7 bar.
Maximum permissible difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  Insert spark plugs using spark plug socket and extension -3122 B- and tighten to 30 Nm.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
–  Read fault memory, rectify faults as necessary and then clear fault memory → Chapter.
