Removing and installing fuel gauge sender
  Note
t  Vehicles with four-wheel drive have two fuel gauge senders. For details of removing fuel gauge sender 2 -G169- → Chapter.
t  Empty the fuel tank using the fuel extractor -VAS 5190-.
Removing
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Wear eye protection and gloves to avoid injuries and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
   
–  Release connector lugs on lines -3- and -4- and pull off.
–  Raise retaining tabs -1- and -2- using a screwdriver and pull fuel gauge sender -G- off downwards -arrow-.
Installing
–  Insert fuel gauge sender -G- into guides on fuel delivery unit and press upwards until it engages.
–  When installing, check that sender flange seals are properly seated.
  Note
t  Always renew seals if the fuel has caused them to swell.
t  Moisten seal with fuel only when installing fuel delivery unit or sender 2.
