Removing and installing headlight range control unitJ431, vehicles ▸ 04.02
Removing and installing headlight range control unit -J431-, vehicles ► 04.02
On the Golf and Bora, the control unit for automatic headlight range control is attached to the left-hand headlight.
Removing:
–  Switch off ignition and all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.
–  On Golf, remove battery before removing control unit → Chapter.
–  On Bora, remove headlight before removing control unit → Chapter.
   
–  Remove bolts -arrows- securing control unit.

–  Pull control unit backwards off headlight and disconnect connector.
Installing:
  Caution
When installing headlight range control unit, ensure that seal is properly seated. The ingress of water would cause irreparable damage to the headlight.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing observe the following:
–  Check coding of headlight with gas discharge bulb and recode system if necessary → Chapter.
–  Check function of headlight.
–  Check headlight settings and adjust if necessary → Booklet37.
