Removing and installing poly-V-belt
Removing and installing poly-V-belt
  Caution
t  Before removing, mark the top side and direction of rotation of the poly-V-belt. When installing, ensure correct fitting position and direction of rotation. If the belt is installed in the wrong position or against direction of rotation, the belt will be destroyed!
t  Check poly-V-belt → Chapter. If faults are found, it is essential for the poly-V-belt to be renewed. This will avoid possible breakdowns or operating problems.
Removing:
   
–  Remove securing screws -arrows- and detach centre engine compartment cover.
  N27-0034
–  Unscrew hexagon nut and unclip securing clips -arrows-.
–  Remove right-hand engine compartment cover.

–  Lever off cover caps -arrows- in engine cover -A- using a screwdriver.

–  Remove securing nuts -arrows-.
–  Lift off engine cover -A- and remove.
–  Remove charge air pipe between charge air cooler and turbocharger → 4-cyl. diesel engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.21
–  Mark direction of rotation of poly-V-belt if it is to be reused.

–  Swivel tensioning roller using a flat ring spanner (16 mm) on tensioning lever -arrow-.
–  Remove poly-V-belt.
  Note
Take poly-V-belt off idler roller first.
Installing:
  Caution
t  When installing used poly-V-belts observe the direction of rotation marked on removal!
t  Before installing poly-V-belt, ensure that all ancillaries (alternator, air conditioner compressor, power assisted steering vane pump) are secured tightly.
t  When fitting belt, ensure that poly-V-belt seats correctly in pulleys!
–  Swivel tensioning roller in direction of arrow using flat ring spanner (16 mm) on tensioning lever.
–  Fit poly-V-belt.

–  Install charge air pipe.
–  Tighten threaded connections to specified torque settings → Chapter.
–  Start engine and check belt is running correctly.
–  Switch off engine.
–  Install centre and right-hand engine compartment cover.
