Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Refractometer -T10007-
t  Hose clip pliers -VAS 6340-
t  Torque wrench (5…50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
t  Water pump wrench -V.A.G 1590-

–  Due to modification to securing bolts for coolant pump pulley, the three rounded corners must be filed out to minimum a = 1 mm.

  Note
t  The integrated coolant pump seal must not be separated from the coolant pump.
t  Damaged or leaking coolant pumps must be replaced complete with seal.
Removing
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.

–  Remove bracket -1-.
  Note
As the bracket is only used during the vehicle production, it need not be reinstalled.

–  Hold pulley with water pump wrench -V.A.G 1590-.
–  Unscrew securing bolts -arrows- for coolant pump pulley and remove pulley.

–  Unscrew securing bolts -arrows- for coolant pump -1- and pull pump off cylinder block.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing, note the following:
–  Install coolant pump in cylinder block.
–  Tighten securing bolts to 9 Nm.
–  Tighten coolant pump belt pulley to 20 Nm.
–  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Replenish coolant → Chapter.
