Removing and installing throttle valve module -J338- Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench (4…20 Nm) -V.A.G 1410-

t  Hose clip pliers -VAS 6340- Removing

–  Remove securing bolts -1- from engine cover panel. –  Pull oil dipstick out –  Detach coolant hoses -2- at engine cover panel and pull engine cover panel upwards.

–  Detach hoses -1- and -2- from pressure pipe. –  Pull connector off charge air pressure sender -G31- with intake air temperature sender 2 -G299--4- and remove securing bolts -3-.

–  Press retaining clips -1- outwards and slightly pull pressure pipe -2- upwards. –  Then pull pressure pipe -2- off turbocharger.

–  Pull connector -1- off throttle valve module -J338-. –  Unscrew securing bolts -2- and remove throttle valve module -3- from intake manifold. Installing –  Place new sealing ring into groove in intake manifold.

–  Position throttle valve module -3- together with adapter -2- and securing bolts -1- on intake manifold -4-.

–  Tighten securing bolts -2- to 7 Nm. –  Fit connector -1- onto throttle valve module -3-.   Note Before installing, lightly coat O-rings on turbocharger and in pressure pipe with engine oil.

–  Fit pressure pipe -2- onto turbocharger. –  Press pressure pipe -2- onto throttle valve module. The retaining clips -1- must engage audibly.

–  Tighten bolts -3- of retaining clips to 7 Nm. –  Fit connector onto charge air pressure sender -G31- with intake air temperature sensor 2 -G299-. –  Press hoses -1- and -2- into retainers on pressure pipe.

–  Attach coolant hoses -2- to engine cover panel and place engine cover panel on camshaft housing. –  Tighten securing bolts -1- to 8 Nm. If a new throttle valve module was installed: –  Erase learnt values and adapt engine control unit -J623- to throttle valve module → Vehicle diagnostic tester„Guided functions“.
