Bleeding fuel system   Note t  To avoid damage to catalytic converter, fuel system without return line must be bled following work on fuel lines, or fuel filter. Do not start the engine until the fuel system has been bled. t  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Remote control for V.A.G 1348 -V.A.G 1348/3A- t  Adapter cable -V.A.G 1348/3-3-

t  Diesel extractor -VAS 5226- t  Adapter -V.A.G 1318/20- t  Adapter -V.A.G 1318/20-1- t  Stepladder -VAS 5085-   WARNING Fuel system is under pressure! Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid possible injury and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection. Vehicles ► model year 2006 –  Open cover of relay and fuse holder of engine compartment E-box. –  Pull fuse SB33 out of socket F33 of fuse holder.

–  Connect remote control for V.A.G 1348 -V.A.G 1348/3A- with adapter cable -V.A.G 1348/3-3- to right terminal of fuse socket F33. –  Tape off 2nd connector contact of the adapter cable -V.A.G 1348/3-3- with insulating tape -arrow- to prevent short circuits. –  Connect crocodile clip to vehicle battery (+). Vehicles model year 2006 ► –  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.

–  Connect remote control for V.A.G 1348 -V.A.G 1348/3A- to contact -5- of fuel pump and battery positive (+) using adapter cables from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-. –  Connect contact -1- on connector and contact -1- on fuel pump using adapter cables from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594C-.

–  Remove cover -arrow- from breather valve.

–  Turn valve (on T-piece) anti-clockwise until it is entirely open. –  Screw adapter -V.A.G 1318/20-1- onto adapter -V.A.G 1318/20-. –  Screw adapter -V.A.G 1318/20- hand-tight onto bleeder valve.

–  Connect hose of diesel extractor -VAS 5226- as illustrated. –  Turn valve on T-piece clockwise into bleed valve to stop. –  Check adapter and hose connections for leaks. –  Operate remote control for V.A.G 1348 -V.A.G 1348/3A- until fuel flows free of air bubbles from breather valve.

–  Turn valve (on T-piece) anti-clockwise until it is entirely open again. –  Clamp off hose from diesel extractor -VAS 5226-, e.g. using hose clips up to Ø 25 mm -3094- and pull it off adapter -V.A.G 1318/20–1-. –  Unscrew adapter -V.A.G 1318/20- from bleed valve.

–  Screw cover -arrow- onto bleed valve again.
