Installing > < Removing and installing fuel tank

Removing
–  Note safety precautions before beginning work → Chapter.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft coding.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Unscrew securing bolts and remove tank flap unit.
–  Drain fuel tank and clean fuel filler neck and surrounding area → Chapter.
–  Remove rear seat bench.
–  Remove cover from fuel delivery unit.
–  Pull 5-pin connector off flange.
–  Remove rear right wheel.
–  Remove rear right wheel housing liner → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.
–  Unbolt filler neck from body.
–  Unclip electrical wiring from filler neck.
–  Remove front and rear silencers → Chapter.
  WARNING
Fuel supply lines are under pressure! Wear eye protection and gloves to avoid injuries and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
   
–  Disconnect breather hose -1- (white) and supply hose -2- (black) at connecting point.
  Note
Press in securing ring to release fuel lines.
–  Unscrew securing strap and securing bolts. When doing this, support fuel tank with engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.
–  Lower fuel tank. In the process, turn fuel tank and guide filler neck between trailing arm and body.
