Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Oil seal extractor -3203-
t  Counterhold tool -3415-
t  Assembly tool -T10053-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-

Removing seal:
–  Remove poly V-belt → Chapter.
–  Remove toothed belt.
   Engine code AXW → Chapter
   Golf without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
   Touran without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
   Golf with split toothed belt guard (BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter
   Touran with split toothed belt guard (BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter
   
–  Remove crankshaft sprocket. To do this, lock toothed belt pulley using counterhold tool -3415-.

–  To guide oil seal extractor, screw central bolt into crankshaft onto stop by hand.
–  Unscrew inner part of oil seal extractor -3203- 9 turns (approx. 20 mm) from the outer part and lock in position with the knurled screw.

–  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor -3203-, place it in position and, exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
–  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against crankshaft until the oil seal is pulled out.
Installing seal:
–  Remove oil residue from end of crankshaft journal using clean cloth.
  A13-0060
–  Fit guide sleeve -T10053/1- onto crankshaft journal.
–  Slide dry oil seal over guide sleeve onto crankshaft journal.
  N13-0548
–  Press in seal using assembly tool -T10053- and bolt -T10053/2- (M16 x 1.5 x 60) to stop.
  N13-0515
–  Install crankshaft pulley and lock in position with counterhold tool -3415-.
  Note
t  The contact surfaces between toothed belt pulley and crankshaft must be free of oil.
t  The centre bolt must be renewed.
t  Thread and shoulder must be free of oil and grease.
–  Tighten new centre bolt to 90 Nm and turn 90° (1/4 turn) further (turning further can be done in several stages).
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling procedure.
Installing toothed belt and adjusting valve timing:
   Engine code AXW → Chapter
   Golf without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
   Touran without split toothed belt guard (BLR, BLX, BLY, BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter.
   Golf with split toothed belt guard (BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter
   Touran with split toothed belt guard (BVX, BVY, BVZ) → Chapter
