1 - Outer constant velocity joint
q   Renew only as complete unit
q   Removing → Anchor.
q   Installing: drive onto shaft to stop using a plastic mallet
q   Checking → Chapter
2 - Bolt
q   Various versions
q   Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue „ETKA“
q   Hexagon bolt, 200 Nm and turn +180° further
q   Loosening and tightening hexagon bolt → Chapter
  WARNING
t  There are two versions of the twelve-point head bolt, with and without ribs Distinguishing feature → Fig..
t  When installing a twelve-point bolt, always note which version of the twelve-point bolt is installed
t  The respective specified torque must also be used.
t  The specified torque for twelve-point bolts »with« ribbing is 70 Nm + 90° when loosening and tightening → Chapter.
t  The specified torque for twelve-point bolts »without« ribbing is 200 Nm + 180° when loosening and tightening → Chapter.
q   Always renew after removing.
3 - Clamp
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Tightening → Fig.
4 - Boot
q   Check for splits and chafing
q   Material: Hytrel (polyester elastomer)
5 - Clamp
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Tightening → Fig.
6 - Dished spring
q   Installation position → Fig..
7 - Thrust washer
q   Installation position → Fig..
8 - Retaining ring
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Insert in groove in shaft
9 - Boot for constant velocity joint
q   Material: Hytrel (polyester elastomer)
q   Without breather hole
q   Check for splits and chafing
q   Drive off constant velocity joint with a drift
q   Coat sealing surface with D 454 300 A2 before installing constant velocity joint
10 - Dished spring
q   Installation position → Fig..
11 - Clamp
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Tightening → Fig.
12 - Drive shaft
13 - Intermediate shaft
q   For Golf only
q   Right side of vehicle:
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Repairing → Chapter
14 - Cover
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Always renew
q   Pressing off → Fig.
15 - Retaining ring
q   Remove and install with circlip pliers -VW 161 A-
16 - Seal
q   Adhesive surface on constant velocity joint must be free of oil and grease!
17 - Inner constant velocity joint
q   Renew only as complete unit
q   Pressing off → Fig.
q   Pressing on → Fig.
q   Checking → Chapter
18 - Cap
q   Drive off carefully with drift
q   Coat sealing surface with D 454 300 A2 before installing constant velocity joint
q   Adhesive surface must be free of oil and grease!
19 - Locking plate
q   Always renew after removing.
20 - Multi-point socket head bolt
q   Initially tighten diagonally to 10 Nm and then tighten diagonally to specified torque.
   M8 bolt: 40 Nm
   M10 bolt: 70 Nm
q   Always renew bolts after removing
21 - Clamp
q   Always renew after removing.
q   Tightening → Fig.
22 - Bolt
q   20 Nm
q   For Golf only
23 - Countersunk head bolt
q   Initially tighten to 5 Nm and then to 35 Nm
q   For Golf only
q   Qty. 3
24 - Mounting bracket

Distinguishing features between twelve-point head bolt with ribbing and twelve-point head bolt without ribbing.
The twelve-point head bolt are only distinguishable on the contact surfaces -arrow A- and -arrow B-.
