| – | Actuate respective button in head restraint guide and pull out head restraint -1- from backrest. |
| Only 2-door |
| – | Pull off operating knob -2-. |
| – | Insert a screwdriver -direction of arrow- and lever trim -3- out of mounting. |
Note| When installing, remove retaining spring -4- from lever -5- and renew it. |
| Only vehicles (Golf 2004 ►) with manual height adjustment of lumbar support |
| – | Using removal pliers -3392-, remove knob -6- for lumbar support height adjustment. |
| All vehicles |
| – | Unhook profiled piece -7- on both sides of backrest. |
| – | Release profile -8- from mounting -9-. |
| – | Remove side retaining bars -1- and -2- from mountings and fold back of cover upwards. |
| – | Remove plate -3- from backrest. |
| – | Open side retaining bar -4- and unhook tensioning wire -5-. |
| – | Open side retaining bar -7- and unhook tensioning wire -6-. |
| – | Fold cover -5- upwards. |
| – | Using a small screwdriver, unclip cover profiles -1- from mountings -2- in padding. |
| – | Unhook tensioning wire -4- from padding wire -3- on both sides. |
| – | Remove head restraint guides → Chapter. |
| – | Remove cover -5- and padding -6- from backrest frame -7-. |
