Removing
   
Removing
–  Disconnect battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove A-pillar upper trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
–  Remove A-pillar lower trim on front passenger side → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.
–  Remove glove compartment → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Unscrew bolts -1- from airbag unit on front passenger side, then unscrew bolts -2, 3 and 4-.

   
Vehicles with an automatic gearbox
–  Detach gearstick boot from cover → Rep. gr.37.
Vehicles with an manual or double clutch gearbox
–  Detach gearstick boot from cover → Rep. gr.34.
Continuation for all vehicles:
–  Remove cover -1- → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.68.
–  Only remove bolts -3-.

–  Removing footwell vent on front passenger side → Chapter.
Vehicles with Climatic:
–  Removing temperature flap servomotor -V68- → Chapter.
Vehicles with Climatronic:
–  Removing left temperature flap servomotor -V158- → Chapter.
   
Continuation for all vehicles:
–  Remove bolts -A- from cover -B-.
–  Protect area of dash panel from damage.
–  Pull dash panel towards interior.
  Caution
Danger of short circuit.
Disconnect battery before performing repair work.
  A87-0685
–  Unscrew nut -1- (9 ± 1 Nm).
–  Release locking device of connector strip -arrow-.
  WARNING
Danger of burn injuries.
The auxiliary air heater element -Z35- may be hot.
Before removing auxiliary air heater element -Z35-, allow it to cool off.
–  Unscrew bolt -2- (1.4 Nm) and pull out auxiliary air heater element -Z35- from blower box.
