Notes on installing (Golf, Polo)
Notes on installing (Golf, Polo)
Installation is performed in the reverse sequence. In the process, note the following:
Repairing the clutch:
t  Vehicles with manual gearbox → Manual gearbox; Rep. gr.30
t  Vehicles with dual clutch gearbox → 7-speed dual clutch gearbox; Rep. gr.30.
–  Check whether dowel sleeves for centring engine/gearbox have been fitted in cylinder block, insert if necessary.
–  When installing »engine/gearbox assembly«, ensure sufficient clearance to subframe and radiator.
Golf, Golf Plus
–  Adjusting assembly mountings → Chapter.
Specified torques: → Chapter „Assembly overview - assembly mountings (Golf, Golf Plus, Passat, Touran)“.
Electrical connections and routing → Electrical system; Rep. gr.97.
Polo
Specified torques: → Chapter „Assembly overview - assembly mountings (Polo)“.
Electrical connections and routing → Electrical system; Rep. gr.97.
Vehicles with manual gearbox:
–  Installing clutch slave cylinder → Manual gearbox; Rep. gr.30
–  Install gearbox selector mechanism and adjust if necessary → Manual gearbox; Rep. gr.34.
Vehicles with dual clutch gearbox:
–  Install gearbox selector lever cable and adjust if necessary → 7-speed dual clutch gearbox; Rep. gr.30.
Continuation for all vehicles:
  Note
t  After working on particulate filter, ensure it is installed free of stress.
t  Renew self-locking nuts, seals, gaskets and securing clamps.
t  The further procedure must be followed in the specified sequence to ensure that the particulate filter is installed tension-free.
  Caution
Avoid damage of decoupling element behind particulate filter. When removing and installing:
t  Do not bend decoupling element more than 10°.
t  Install decoupling element so that it is not under tension.
t  Take care not to damage wire mesh on decoupling element.
   
Observe sequence when installing particulate filter:
  A26-10695
1.position particulate filter on turbocharger and secure clip -1- loosely
2.screw bolts and nuts -2 … 5- in by hand
l  particulate filter and retainer must be able to move
3.tighten clip -1-
4.tighten nuts and bolts -2- and -5-
5.tighten nuts and bolts -3- and -4-

Polo: specified torques - particulate filter → Chapter
Golf, Golf Plus; Passat, Touran: specified torques - particulate filter → Chapter.
–  Bolt drive shafts to gearbox → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.
   
–  Install heat shield for drive shaft (right-side) -1-.
Specified torque for bolts for drive shaft heat shield -1- → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40,
Vehicles with manual gearbox:
   Specified torque → Manual gearbox; Rep. gr.34
Vehicles with dual clutch gearbox:
   Specified torque → 7-speed dual clutch gearbox; Rep. gr.34
Continuation for all vehicles:
–  Install lock carrier → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
–  Secure refrigerant lines free of stress to air conditioner compressor and to condenser → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr.87.
–  Charge air conditioner → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. gr.87.
–  Install battery and battery tray → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Observe notes after connecting battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Replenish coolant → Chapter.
–  Filling fuel system → Chapter.
–  Read event memories of all control units.
–  Clear all entries which may have occurred during installation → Vehicle diagnostic tester„Vehicle self-diagnosis“.
–  Check headlight adjustment and correct if necessary → Booklet20.1.
