t  Torque wrench (5 … 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-
t  Hand drill with plastic brush
t  Flat scraper
t  Eye protection
t  Sealant D 176 600 A1
Removing
–  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
Golf, Golf Plus, Touran, Golf Cabriolet
–  Unbolt exhaust pipe from catalytic converter (Golf, Golf Plus, Touran, Golf Cabriolet) → Chapter.
Continuation for all vehicles
–  Drain engine oil.
–  Pull 3-pin connector off oil level and oil temperature sender -G266--2-.

–  Remove bolt -1- and rear bolt from coolant pipe bracket.
–  Unscrew both securing bolts -3- and remove cover plate.
–  Unbolt sump sealed with liquid gasket.
–  Remove sump, it may be necessary to release sump by tapping lightly with a rubber head hammer.
–  Remove sealant residue from cylinder block with a flat scraper.

–  Remove sealant residues on sump with a rotating brush, e.g. an electric drill with plastic brush attachment (wear eye protection).
–  Clean sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.
Installing
  Note
t  Observe expiry date of sealing compound.
t  The sump must be installed within 5 minutes of applying silicone sealing compound.
t  Sump can be positioned more easily and with greater security if M6 studs are inserted into the cylinder block flange at two positions as guides.

–  Cut off tube nozzle at forward marking (Ø of nozzle approx. 3 mm).
–  Apply silicone sealing compound, as shown, to clean sealing surface on sump. Sealant bead must be:
t  2 … 3 mm thick.
t  Run bead along inner side of bolt holes -arrows-.
  Note
t  The sealing compound bead must not be thicker, otherwise excessive sealing compound will enter the sump and may block the oil suction pipe strainer.
t  Use new bolts for oil sump.
–  Install sump immediately and tighten all sump bolts lightly.
–  Tighten oil sump bolts to 13 Nm.
–  Tighten cover plate securing bolts on gearbox to 40 Nm.
Golf, Golf Plus, Touran, Golf Cabriolet
–  Reconnect exhaust pipe to catalytic converter (Golf, Golf Plus, Touran, Golf Cabriolet) → Chapter.
Continuation for all vehicles
  Note
Let sealing compound dry for approx. 30 minutes after installing oil sump. Only then fill with engine oil.
