Coolant temperature must be at least 80 °C, See display group 04, display zone 3.

Functional check

-

Connect V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (V.A.G 1552). Start engine and select "Address word" 01 of engine control module. The engine must be running
at idling speed. (Connecting scan tool and selecting engine control module). Refer to "VAG1551 Scan Tool See: Tools and Equipment

Press keys 0 and 4 for function "Introduction of basic setting" and confirm entry with Q key.

Press keys 0, 3 and 4 for "Display group number 34" and confirm entry with Q key.

Set engine speed to 1800...2200 rpm using speed regulator V.A.G 1788/10:

-

Maintain engine speed at 1800...2200 rpm until display in display zone 4 jumps from "Test OFF" to "Test ON". Catalyst temperature in display
zone 2 must be 350...500 °C.

-

Continue to maintain the speed at 1800...2200 rpm until specification "B1-S1 OK" appears in display zone 4.

If the specifications are obtained:

-

Press -> key.

-

Remove engine speed adjuster V.A.G 1788/10 from accelerator pedal.

-

Press keys 0 and 6 for function "End output" and confirm entry with the Q key.

-

Switch ignition off.

If the specifications are not attained:

-

Remove engine speed adjuster V.A.G 1788/10 from accelerator pedal.

-

Road test vehicle to free oxygen sensor of possible residues and repeat test.

Observe the valid safety precautions when carrying out a road test. See: Service Precautions/Technician Safety Information 

If the specifications are again not attained:

-

Replace heated oxygen sensor -G39.

-

Check DTC Memory, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and then Erase DTC Memory,Checking and Erasing DTC Memory. Refer to
"Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes/With Manufacture Scan Tool/Check DTC Memory (Function 02)" See: Testing and Inspection

Read readiness code. If DTC memory has been erased or engine control module was disconnected from permanent positive, readiness code must
be generated again: Refer to "Monitors, Trips and/or Drive Cycle/ Reading Readiness Code" See: Testing and Inspection
