Golf L4-1.9L DSL Turbo (BEW) (2004)

Remove crankshaft toothed belt pulley by counterholding toothed belt pulley with counterhold 3099
Note: When bolting on the counterhold place two washers between the toothed belt pulley and the counterhold.

Drain engine oil.

Remove oil pan.

Unbolt front sealing flange.
-
Remove sealing flange. Release flange using light blows with a rubber-headed hammer if necessary.

Remove sealant residue on cylinder block with a flat scraper.

Remove sealant remains on sealing flange with a rotating plastic brush (wear eye protection).

Clean sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.
Installing
Note:

Observe the use by date of the sealing compound.

The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the silicone sealant.

Cut off tube nozzle at forward marking (nozzle diameter approximately 3 mm).
Note:

The sealant bead must not be thicker than 2 ... 3 mm, otherwise excess sealant can enter the oil pan and clog the strainer in the oil pump suction
pipe, as well as drip onto the crankshaft oil seal.

Before applying the sealant bead, cover the sealing surface of the oil seal with a clean rag.

Apply silicone sealant bead as shown - arrow - to clean sealing surface of sealing flange.

Install sealing flange immediately and lightly tighten all bolts.
Note: Use guide sleeve T1005311 to install sealing flange with the oil seal already installed.

Tighten sealing flange securing bolts using diagonal and alternating sequence. Tightening torque- 15 Nm
