Condition
Fuel, Poor Quality
Poor quality fuel or seasonal fuel changes (summer/winter fuel) may negatively affect operation of the engine and may cause one or more of the
following conditions:
^
Engine runs rough after cold start.
^
Stumbles while driving.
^
Loss of engine performance.
^
Rough engine idle.
^
Excessive carbon build-up on intake valves and combustion chambers.
^
Clogged fuel filter and/or fuel injectors.
Conditions may be severe enough to illuminate the MIL in conjunction with storage of one or more of the following DTCs in the ECM:
^
Misfire on one or more cylinders (P0300, P030x)
In addition, poor quality fuel may exhibit one or more of the following characteristics:
^
May have unique color and odor.
^
May contain undissolved water, sediment, and suspended matter.
^
May appear cloudy, and (after settling), may show signs of separation.
Technical Background
Condition may be caused by use of contaminated fuel.
Condition may be caused by use of fuel with a low content of deposit control additives.
Production Solution
No production change required.
Service
Always follow indications of the Repair Manual, applicable Technical Bulletins and Guided Fault Finding.
If diagnosis is inconclusive, poor fuel quality may be the cause of the condition, consider advising the customer to change fuel source (brand/gas station).
