Valve Guide: Service and Repair

Valve guides, removing and installing

-

Clean and check cylinder head. Do not replace guides in cylinder heads with valve seats that can no longer be reworked and cylinder heads that
have already been machined to the minimum dimension.

Press worn valve guides out from camshaft side with 3121 drift.

-

If valve guide has shoulder (replacement guides) press out guides from the combustion chamber side.

-

Lubricate new guides with oil.

-

Press into cold cylinder head from camshaft side up to shoulder using 3121 drift.

CAUTION!

- After shoulder makes contact DO NOT increase pressure over 1.0 t. Otherwise the shoulder can break off.

-

Ream valve guide to size using 3120 reamer and proper cutting lubricant.

-

Reface valve seats.
