Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

Engine control module
Engine control module, replacing
Work sequence
-
Print out control module identification.
Note: Replace control module if the control module version displayed does not correspond to the vehicle. For latest part number for engine
control module:, Refer to Parts Supplier

Switch ignition off.
-
Remove wiper arms and cowl panel:
-
Release connector from control module and disconnect.
-
Press control module to right and pull out.
-
Install new control module and press to left.
-
Connect and lock connectors.
-
Code control module in "guided fault finding" and adapt to electrical immobilizer and to throttle valve control module, Refer to Adapting
components and functions.
Vehicles with cruise control system (CCS)
-
Check whether cruise control module is activated; activate if necessary, Refer to Adapt components and functions.
Vehicles with automatic transmission
-
Learning kick down switch point, Refer to Adapting components.

Adapt control module for automatic transmission, Refer to Adapting components.
Continue for all models
-
Road test vehicle.
Observe applicable safety precautions during road test
During the road test the following operating conditions must be done:

Coolant temperature must exceed 80°C.
-
When temperature is reached, the operating conditions, as follows, must be attained several times:
-
Idling
-
Part throttle
-
Enrichment:
-
Full throttle
-
Overrun
-
Read control module DTC memory again.
-
Generate readiness code in "Guided fault finding, Refer to Adapting functions and components.
