Tighten power steering gear on transmission support T10108 and unscrew tie rod from connecting rod.

Note:  Use only hole "5" and the allocated upper hole from transmission support to tighten power steering gear.

Installing

Further installation is in the reverse sequence to removal.

Tightening torque

Tie rod to power steering gear 75 Nm (55.3 ft. lbs.)

Installing boot

Inspect boot for wear (cuts, tears) and check that sealing surfaces are clean.

Installing boot, but first turn tie rod so that the tie rod ball joint shank is in the installation position.

Note:  Only use genuine clamp-type clips.

Tighten clamp with hose clamp pliers V.A.G. 1275.

Install power steering gear

Tie rod ball joints, modified

-

The manufacturing process for tie rod ball joints has been optimized. This has resulted in changes to the external shape and length of the internally
threaded shaft.

It was necessary to modify the tie rods to match the tie rod ball joints,.
