Oil Filter and Oil Level, Changing and Adjusting

The following chapter shows how to change the oil and filter together.

Short Description

First, the oil temperature is read out. If it is higher than 50 °C (122 °F), allow the transmission to cool down. With the engine off, remove the overflow
tub and drain the oil. Then install the overflow tube again and overfill the transmission.

Start the engine and drain any excess oil until the oil level has reached the overflow tube.

If the oil filter is being replaced, then it often necessary to create an access to the filter. The air filter housing must be removed.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System ( V.A.S 5051)

‹› Adapter for Oil Filling (V.A.S 6262 A)

‹› Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device (V.A.G 1782) or

‹› Drip Tray (V.A.G 1306)

‹› Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

The oil is obtainable as a replacement part.

Requirements

‹› The engine is off.

‹› The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.

‹› Noise insulation is removed if necessary

‹› The selector level is in the "P" position.

‹› The (VAS 5051) is connected

‹› To begin work, the oil temperature should not be higher than 50 °C (122 °F).

Up to transmission production date "September 20, 2004", transmissions with two plugs were installed.
