The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) must tight up.
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) does not light up with the ignition turned on:
- Check MIL lamp wiring / MIL lamp bulb using wiring diagram.
If OK:
- Check instrument cluster/ECM, and replace if necessary.
- Check DTC memory. If necessary, repair any malfunctions and then erase DTC memory. Refer to "Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes" under
"Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems" See: Testing and Inspection
- Read-out the readiness code. Refer to "Monitors, Trips and/or Drive Cycle/Displaying Readiness Code" under "Powertrain Management/Computers
and Control Systems" See: Testing and Inspection
If the DTC memory has been erased or the engine control module was disconnected from permanent positive, generate the readiness code again. Refer to
"Monitors, Trips and/or Drive Cycle/Generating Readiness Code" under "Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems" See: Testing and
Inspection
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) lights up with the ignition turned on, continue check as follows:
- Start engine and run at idle.
-
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) must go out after a few seconds.
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) does not go out:
- Check DTC memory. If necessary, repair any malfunctions and erase DTC memory. Refer to "Displaying and Reading Trouble Codes" under
"Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems" See: Testing and Inspection
If no DTCs are stored:
- Check MIL lamp wiring using wiring diagram.
If OK:
- Check instrument cluster/ECM, and replace if necessary.
- Check DTC memory. If necessary, repair any malfunctions and then erase DTC memory.
- Read-out the readiness code. Refer to "Monitors, Trips and/or Drive Cycle/Displaying Readiness Code" under "Powertrain Management/Computers
