A number of rear axles have had the bonded rubber bushing pressed in too far during production. This makes it difficult to insert special tool 3111 in the
event the bushing must be removed.

Rework tool 3111 in the area of the U-shaped cutout to allow insertion for removal of these bushings.

When installing the bushing, care must be taken that it is not pressed in more than 8.0 mm (5/16 in.). (see GOLF/GTI/JETTA Repair Manual, page 42.6)

Note Lubricate the spindle of tool 3111 with MoS2 grease before use.

CAUTION

Do not use an impact wrench to turn the spindle.
