KNOCK SENSOR REPLACEMENT 1990/91 MODEL JETTA GLI/GOLF GTI-16V
Dear Volkswagen Dealer:
This is to inform you of the initiation of a service action campaign involving 1990 and some 1991 model Volkswagen Jetta GLI and Golf GTI-16V
vehicles. The vehicles affected are within the following identification number ranges:
Jetta GLI
WVW___1G_LW000001 - WVW___1G_MW030623
Golf GTI-16V
3VW__21G_MM000001 - 3VW__21G_MM000747
Problem Description
Volkswagen has found that the electrical cables leading to the engine's two knock sensors may have been installed in reverse order during manufacture.
Remedial Action
Replace one sensor and properly connect both sensors.
Customer Notification
VWUS will inform all known owners of affected vehicles directly by first class mail on or about September 5, 1990. Copy of the notification letter is
enclosed for your information.
Vehicle Allocation Information
Prior to owner notification we will furnish you with a computer printed list of vehicles containing names and addresses of owners residing within your
primary area of influence.
Inventory Vehicles All vehicles affected by this service action and which are in your inventory must be corrected prior to retail.
Parts Supply
An initial supply of the replacement knock sensor, part number 034 905 377A will automatically be shipped to you. Additional required parts must be
ordered by you from your parts warehouse.
Work Procedure
See attachment.
Time Allowance
The time necessary to complete the corrective work is the following:

Install 034 905 377A sensor and connect cables properly 35 T.U.

Additional Campaigns
Some of the affected vehicles are also involved in the QW fuel pump replacement campaign. Owners of these vehicles will receive a single authorization
form listing both campaign codes. Please check your V-Crest system or contact your Zone/Distributor office concerning vehicles in your inventory to
ensure that both actions are completed simultaneously prior to sale.
