Condition

When playing cassette tapes on either side, sound coming from right or left channel is muffled, distorted or output is low, also cassette tape player may
destroy the cassette tape.

Condition may be caused by dirty tape player head or drive mechanism.

Note:

Many cassette tape players received at test facilities have tested OK after cleaning.

It is the Owner's responsibility to maintain the cassette player by periodic cleaning. 

DO NOT submit a warranty claim for this service, except when all conditions listed under "Sound does not improve" are met.

Service

Before replacing a cassette tape player for this condition, use a locally available cassette cleaning tape such as Radio Shack(R) Part No.: 44-1116 (cleans
head and drive mechanism):

Follow instructions in kit and thoroughly clean tape player head and drive mechanism (clean in both directions).

Test tape player with a known good tape.

Sound improves

If sound output is slightly improved after cleaning tape player head and drive mechanism:

-

Clean tape player head and drive mechanism again.

If sound output is OK after cleaning tape player head and drive mechanism:

-

Explain cassette tape player care to customer, refer to owners manual.

Sound does not improve

If sound output is not improved after cleaning tape player head and drive mechanism and no other reason for this condition has been found:

-

Replace cassette tape player with exchange unit.

Note:

You may submit a warranty claim for cleaning cassette tape player only when all of the following conditions are met.

When procedure applies to vehicles within The New Vehicle Limited Warranty and adheres to Warranty Policy guidelines.

Cleaning has no effect on this condition.
