GTI L4-1.8L Turbo (AWP) (2003)
Pressure Test:
-
Attach outlet hose of Turbocharger Tester to fitting on Air Pressure Adaptor (black arrow).
-
Close outlet valve after the gauge.
-
Back off pressure regulator knob of Turbocharger Tester fully to protect gauge when shop air supply pressure is applied to the assembly.
-
Attach an air line to inlet fitting on Turbocharger Tester.
-
Open valve between regulator valve and gauge.
-
Adjust test pressure up to 0.5 bar by turning regulator valve.
NOTE: Do not pressurize system above 0.5 bar!
Doing so will force oil into the intake through the throttle body assembly, causing damage to the engine.
-
Slowly open outlet valve (after gauge) to test hose connections.
-
Observe pressure gauge for a drop in pressure.
Tip: Some pressure will be lost past the throttle plate.
-
Apply soapy water or leak check liquid to all intake system connections to check for leaks.
Tip: An ultrasonic tester may also be used to locate leaks.
-
Repair any leaks found.
-
Remove plug from crankcase ventilation hose.
-
Remove air pressure adaptor and reinstall hoses.
