Battery Interrupt Igniter

CAUTION:

-

Vehicles with battery in luggage compartment is equipped with battery isolator to increase crash safety. In the event of a collision, the
airbag control module triggers a separation, which disrupts the power supply wiring to the starter and to the engine electronics. The
battery cut-off takes place pyrotechnically through a very small explosive charge. To prevent accidentally triggering a separation when
working on the battery or battery cut-off, you must first disconnect the battery.

Depending on equipment, Battery Interrupt Igniter N253 is installed in luggage compartment in conjunction with starter battery and is integrated into
rear right main fuse holder F. Main fuse holder F is located under formed tool kit insert and vehicle jack.

NOTE:

-

Before disconnecting battery, retrieve code for radio units with anti-theft coding.

-

When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the Repair Information.

If battery cut-off is deployed, Battery Interrupt Igniter N253 must be replaced.

Safety Precautions

CAUTION:

-

Testing, assembly, and repairs may only be performed by trained personnel.

-

Battery Ground (GND) strap must be disconnected before performing any work on the battery isolation system.

-

Technician(s) must discharge themselves electrostatically before touching the battery isolator. This is accomplished by touching grounded
metal like, for example, water pipes, heating pipes or metal carriers.

Always install battery isolator units in the vehicle as soon as they are removed from the packaging

-

If installation work is interrupted, IMMEDIATELY return the battery isolator unit to its original packaging.

Battery isolator units must never be left out unattended.

-

DO NOT install battery isolator units that have fallen onto a hard surface, or which have signs of damage.

-

Storage and transport are subject to laws for explosive substances.

Battery Interrupt Igniter Disposal

CAUTION:

-

Non-deployed batter cut-offs should be disposed of properly in the original packaging according to law. Please direct questions to your
distributor or your importer.

-

Battery isolator units that have ignited can be disposed of as industrial waste.
