Wheel Bearing: Removal and Replacement

Rear Suspension (FWD)

Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub (Rabbit)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Grease cap puller VW 637/2

^

Seal installer 3241

^

Torque Wrench V.A.G 1332

^

Torque Wrench V.A.G 1410

^

Ring spanner insert AF 21 T10162

Removing

-

Raise vehicle.

-

Remove wheel.

Loosen dust cap from its seat by tapping lightly on grease cap puller VW 637/2 claw.

-

Press off dust cap.

-

Remove brake carrier with brake caliper and hang on body with tie wire.

Note: Suspend brake caliper from body.

-

Remove Phillips screw for brake disc and take out brake disc.

-

Remove socket head bolt using bit XZN 18 T10162.

-

Pull wheel hubs/wheel bearing unit off stub axle.

Installing

-

Carefully slide wheel hubs/wheel bearing unit onto stub axle.

Make sure that wheel hubs/wheel bearing unit do not cant!

Use new socket head bolt and tighten.

Note:

First, tighten bolt to specified tightening torque using torque wrench.

^

Use solid wrench for additional torque angle.

-

Drive dust cap on with installation sleeve 3241/4.
